Westpac Banking Corporation has a long and proud history as Australia's first and oldest bank. It was established in 1817 as the Bank of New South Wales and changed its name to Westpac in 1982. Today Westpac provides a broad range of retail, commercial and wholesale banking services to more than ten million personal, business, corporate and institutional clients under a broad range of brands including Westpac, St George, Bank of Melbourne, Bank SA, BT Australia and RAMS. With a market capitalization of over A$73 billion (RMB 494bn), Westpac is Australia’s second largest bank.
Customers are supported through Westpac branches and subsidiaries located in Australia, New Zealand, New York, London, Shanghai, Beijing, Singapore and Hong Kong.
In China, Westpac is focused on supporting large corporate clients with business interests and trade flows between China and Australia and New Zealand. Westpac’s clients include not only Australasian and Multi-national companies, but increasingly Chinese corporates and institutions that are active in, or seeking to engage with, Australia and New Zealand. The Westpac Shanghai branch opened in 2008 and the Beijing branch on 1 July 2011.
