Australians of a certain age will remember the excitement and awkwardness of the suburban Blue Light Disco. For those of our members and friends who are not familiar with the concept, the Blue Light Disco originated in Australia in 1976. Two off-duty policemen put on a dance in a hall for the local teenagers, supervised by the police (giving the dance its "Blue Light" moniker). These days the Blue Light Disco still exists in every state and territory in Australia, with thousands of activities held each year.

Blue Light Discos originated in Australia in 1976 in response to that cliché – “we’re bored Dad, there’s nothing to do”. Responding, two off-duty policemen (and fathers) organised a dance in the local hall – and the rest is history.
Millions of Australians have grown up attending Blue Light Discos - they provided a setting for fun times, first kisses, social awkwardness and teenage embarrassment. Come and re-create the fun at AustCham’s Blue Light Kooka on Friday 24th February.
